San Joaquin Valley: The Land of Opportunity
While many people are familiar with such California symbols as the Golden Gate Bridge in the north of the state and Disneyland to the south, it is in the center of California where growth is most promising.
Here, 10 million acres of land represent one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world. This "land of opportunity", the San Joaquin Valley, is not only a model for modern agricultural operations, but also features continued population growth, affordable housing, and an abundant work force.
The San Joaquin Valley is comprised of nine counties: Fresno, Madera, Tulare, Kings, Kern, Mariposa, Merced, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin. These nine counties represent the California Consortium's Regional Center project area. Eight of these nine counties are included in California's top 15 crop producing counties and alone account for 50% of California's total crop production value.
But the San Joaquin Valley has more to offer than just its agricultural excellence. The population is expected to reach 4.3 million by 2010, and with this expected growth comes the need for the development of sophisticated new schools, housing, hospitals, and recreational activities. It is here that the climate is right for growth and prosperity - from agricultural operations to construction and development to manufacturing - the San Joaquin Valley is the place.
