California Agriculture
The California Consortium for Agricultural Export’s investment is located in a state where agriculture is a $30 billion industry. In 2003 California led the nation in total milk production and produced more strawberries, apricots, lettuce, onions, tomatoes (just to name a few) than any other state. In the heart of California’s vibrant agricultural activity lies the San Joaquin Valley, an area world-renown for its rich soil, cutting edge farming techniques and superior crop productivity. The vast assortment of products range from grapes used in luxury chardonnay to alfalfa hay fed to a portion of the state’s 1.69 million cows. During the last 50 years, the San Joaquin Valley’s almond industry has established itself as the dominant worldwide grower. Producing nearly 100% of the domestic supply and 75% of the international supply, this industry is a vital component of California’s agricultural industry.
